Plane Fun Flying Club
Follow the journey of ferrying our newly purchased Cirrus SR 22 - N549SR
Picking up the plane
We departed KRWI for KWDR in Barrow County, Georgia. We refueled then flew a couple more hours to KMEI in Mississippi.
Hold for thunderstorms
We departed in the early morning from KMEI and headed north to KUTA in Tunica, Mississippi. This was our first IFR leg and we were able to land visually at UTA.
The plan is to wait out the passage of the cold front (and a large set of trailing thunderstorms) in Tunica, hopefully departing west sometime late in the afternoon.
Westward bound
We departed in the late afternoon and made it out from under the cold front, with a dramatic flight from Tunica, MS to McAlester, OK. We got fuel then proceeded two hours west to Amarillo, TX where we spent the night. Next, we’re heading further west into New Mexico.
Checking out the sights
We departed Amarillo around 9 this morning and flew to Gallup, New Mexico for fuel. We then flew about an hour to the Grand Canyon and did a scenic lap before landing at Page, right near Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam.
We then flew NW to Tonopah, Nevada. After landing we learned that they have no self-serve fuel, and a $100 callout fee for full-service fuel. We bit the bullet and called for fuel, then surveyed our options for getting back to Oregon. Unfortunately the weather in the PNW is rather abysmal, so we decided we wouldn’t make it home tonight.
Final hops
She’s nearly home! We left Reno and flew north to The Dalles, dodging some icy clouds and high terrain in Nevada. We’re headed out for the short hop to Vancouver now.
Arrival
Many thanks to Erik K, Eric B, and Non-Eric(k) Carl S for being the club's ferry crew!
